Appigo ToDo Application for iPhone/Touch

I am a big fan of David Allen’s Getting Things Done (GTD) task management methodology and have been using it for years. On my Palm Treo I used the LifeBalance program to implement an automated version of it.

Now that I’m using my iPod Touch as my main pocket computer, the Treo has been relegated to the role of just-a-phone-with-a-camera. When I first got my Touch, I looked around for an iPhone/Touch Web application that I could use on it to implement GTD. I soon found the wonderful Remember The Milk (RTM), and used it quite successfully for over 6 months. Not only does it work well with the Touch (or iPhone), it also works well with a PC or mobile phone. So, even if I didn’t have any WiFi access I could still use my Treo to access it.

However, I really wanted to be independent of the Treo and when the App Store was opened I searched for a standalone RTM application. Alas, I found none. However, I did find a wonderful task manager that syncs with RTM – Appigo’s ToDo. To be precise, Bruce Keener found this application and sent me a Tweet about it. I’ve been using it now for the past couple of days.

It has a very clean and easy to use interface, in fact it provides a better interface to RTM than their own iPhone Web interface. It syncs on demand and I haven’t had any problems with sync sessions. Through its integration with RTM it supports repeating tasks, a very important feature for me that seems missing from many task management systems. I did find one bug relating to repeating tasks in RTM and I reported it to Appigo on Saturday. I received an email reply in just 2 hours (on a Saturday!) saying they were working of fixing it. Wow, that’s what I call great support!

In any case, it looks like I’ve found the stand-alone task management software I’ve been looking for to run on my Touch. Time will tell, but so far I’m extremely happy with ToDo. Check it out for yourself in the iTunes App Store. Be aware that there are two applications named “ToDo” in the App Store, so make sure you get the one from Appigo!

[...] to talk about it. In my view, it turned the Touch into a full-fledged PDA. Michael Mconnick also thinks highly of this app (and the Touch upgrade in general), and I highly regard his views. Michael has been posting [...]

For implementing GTD you might try out this new web-based application:

    http://www.gtdagenda.com

You can use it to manage your goals, projects and tasks, set next actions and contexts, use checklists, schedules and a calendar.
A mobile version and iCal are available too.

    Hope you like it.

I’m too private to have my to-dos posted on a web site. I want to have them be stored locally and synched to my Mac, just as I’m now doing with several Clies and Palms.

So, I’ll have to keep browsing to find such a thing before jumping to an ipod touch.

Cool, seems like we both have something in common. I am also a big fan of the GTD approach, but I would recommend using Things. There is also a MAC desktop version. I have written more about it here on my own blog ( http://mydezigns.wordpress.com ) if you are interested. Cheers.
