Revisting Notebook for iPhone/Touch

notebook

I’ve been using Notebook for about 5 months now, and wanted to quickly revisit this program.  I oringally bought it last September because I wanted the best of both worlds – access to my notes even when I have no Internet access from my iPhone, as when I’m on a plane, as well as backing up my notes to the “cloud” and giving me additional access to them from my PC. Notebook is a program that does exactly that. It allows notes to be created and edited on an iPhone/Touch, as well as syncing them to the Web through the free Toodledo service. It also has a whole bunch of nice features like the ability to create multiple notebooks, searching, emailing notes, support for simple formating, automatic recognition of phone numbers and URLs,  and even integration with the Appigo ToDo application (which I also own and love). Notebook has been steadily improved over the months I’ve owned it and has become a vital application to me on my iPhone. If you’re looking for a truly advanced note-taking program for the iPhone/Touch, be sure to check it out!

Turn By Turn Driving Directions for iPhone

gmap

I’ve been anxiously awaiting for an iPhone application that would be able to replace my Tom Tom GPS unit in my car. It turns out that there is  such an application available in the iTunes App Store and it’s been available for quite some time now: G-Map US East. I tried it on my last trip to Indianapolis and it works quite well. It has a few foibles, but it actually is quite usable as a car GPS unit. One limitation it does have, though, is that the turn-by-turn directions are not spoken, i.e., there is no audio with this program. This is apparently due to an Apple restriction on iPhone apps. Nevertheless, it’s quite usable as I often turn the sound off on my Tom  Tom unit anyway.

I’m using the Eastern US version of the program, but there is also a Western US version available from the App Store.
